Parks Planning, Inside and Out

Gatineau Park lookout
Location Info

Did you know that our parks are an important part of the communities that surround them? They protect wildlife and wild spaces, provide recreational activities, attract tourists, and are an important contributor to economic development.

Did you know that our parks are an important part of the communities that surround them? They protect wildlife and wild spaces, provide recreational activities, attract tourists, and are an important contributor to economic development.

What you may not know is that these surrounding communities also have an impact on our parks. The people who plan Canada’s parks are finding that many parks are being affected by land uses such as agriculture, residential development and industry — and they have developed innovative ways to ensure that our parks and communities continue to thrive together.

Our guest speakers will explore how surrounding municipal partners get the most benefit from parks when they develop in harmony with their natural surroundings.

At our next Capital Urbanism Lab, we will learn from the experiences of people who are directly involved with the challenges of planning within and around our parks.

Our guest speakers include:

  • Randall McKay, Manager of Planning and Development for the Town of Banff
  • Louis-Martin Levac, Director, Department of Urban Planning for Ville de Mont-Tremblant
  • Richard Scott, Senior Planner, Rouge National Urban Park, Parks Canada

This is event is presented in partnership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.

OPPI members undertaking Continuous Professional Learning may claim learning units according to the CPL Program Guide.
