Public Consultation on the Capital Illumination Plan: Night Walks

Public Consultation on the Capital Illumination Plan: Night Walks
Public Consultation on the Capital Illumination Plan: Night Walks

As the nighttime environment is best understood and examined on foot and in person, our next public consultation event for the Capital Illumination Plan initiative will be taking place outdoors, at night. The National Capital Commission (NCC) invites you to join us on one of four night walks planned as part of the development of the Capital Illumination Plan for the core area of the Capital.

The purpose of the walks is to explore the nighttime environment, and gather participants’ impressions, ideas and preferences with respect to urban lighting in four specific sectors of the core area. We will be asking questions and gathering feedback on topics such as the lighting of buildings and public spaces, right-of-way lighting, safety, and colour temperature.

The input received during the walks will support the development of the vision and illumination guidelines which are part of Phase 2 of the initiative.

Project Timeline

Format

The format of the event is a walking tour of approximately 90 minutes over a distance of between 1.1 and 1.7 km. Since all four wlaks will run concurrently, participants can join only one of the four routes proposed. Walks will be led by NCC staff and/or members of the Capital Illumination Plan consultant team. Participants will be asked to fill out a survey as part of the event.
