In 2010, Girl Guides of Canada is celebrating its 100th anniversary as a trailblazing organization that offers girls and women opportunities to discover new interests and learn valuable leadership skills.

To celebrate the centennial in Canada’s Capital, the National Capital Commission (NCC) invited members of the 12th Ottawa Guiding Unit to design a floral bed to be planted beside Library and Archives Canada on Wellington Street.

Ten-year-old Avya Stolow winning design

Ten-year-old Avya Stolow describes her winning design, selected by her peers, as a time wheel, with the purple salvia at the centre symbolizing 100 years of Guiding, and the pink begonias, orange celosia and blue ageratum representing Sparks, Brownies and Guides.
